Say "I Do" in Your Colors: How Color Analysis Helps You Plan Your Wedding

Say "I Do" in Your Colors

Your wedding photos will be on walls, in albums, and on your mom's phone lock screen for decades (no pressure!). So it makes sense to want to look and feel like the most radiant version of yourself that day. One of the most joyful ways I've found to make that happen is a color analysis before the big day.

Some of my favorite sessions are with brides and their people: a bride with her mom, a bride with her sisters, or a whole bridal party gathered for a color party with snacks, a playlist, and plenty of happy tears. It's one of those "we'll remember this forever" afternoons tucked right into the middle of wedding planning!

Finding your perfect white

Here's something most brides don't realize until they're standing in a bridal salon: there are many whites, and they are not all created equal (who knew white could be so complicated?). The right one for you depends on your season.

  • Winters glow in crisp, pure white. The clarity and contrast echo their natural coloring beautifully.

  • Summers shine in soft white with a cool, gentle undertone, never too stark.

  • Springs come alive in warm ivory and light cream, like sunshine on fabric.

  • Autumns are stunning in cream, antique ivory, and champagne tones with a little warmth.

When the white harmonizes with your coloring, your skin looks luminous, your eyes sparkle, and the dress looks like it was made for you. That's the magic we're after!

Makeup that photographs beautifully

Wedding makeup has a big job. It has to last all day, look lovely in person, and photograph well in every kind of light. When your makeup is in your season, it looks polished without looking heavy, and you still look like you (just the most rested, glowing version).

Every color analysis includes a makeup lesson, and I keep the full Counter line in my studio so we can swatch shades against your palette together. Brides often leave with their lip color, blush, and shadow picked out for the day. And past clients are always welcome back to try more shades before the wedding, at no extra charge!

Jewelry, metals, and the finishing touches

Your palette guides your accessories too. Cooler seasons often shine in silver, white gold, and platinum, while warmer seasons glow in yellow gold. Softer seasons tend to look lovely in brushed metals and rose gold. It's a helpful guide for choosing earrings, a necklace, hair pieces, and even your rings.

Colors for the whole wedding party

Your palette can be a beautiful starting point for your wedding colors. Here's how I love to see brides use it:

  • Bridesmaids: choose a shade family everyone can wear well, or let each bridesmaid wear a shade from the same color family that suits her own season. A mix-and-match look photographs beautifully!

  • Mothers of the bride and groom: a color analysis takes the guesswork out of finding a dress that feels special and flattering (and it's a lovely gift for her too).

  • The groom: his season can guide his suit, shirt, and tie so you look harmonious side by side.

  • Flowers and details: pull from your palette for florals, linens, and stationery so your whole day feels cohesive and personal.

A bridal color party

If you're looking for a bridal shower activity or a special gift for your bridesmaids, a group color analysis is a fun one! Up to four people can join a group session in my Lancaster studio, and everyone leaves with her own color card and NDU color fan to use long after the wedding. It's a gift they'll actually use (unlike the matching robes that live in the back of the closet).

  • Group of 2: $650

  • Group of 3: $900

  • Group of 4: $1,050

Grooms are welcome too! Men's color analysis is a shorter, streamlined session.

When to book

I recommend booking your color analysis early in your planning, ideally before you shop for your dress. That way your palette can guide every choice that follows, from the dress to the flowers to the bridesmaids. That said, it's never too late. Even a few weeks before the wedding, knowing your colors can help with makeup, jewelry, and those finishing touches!

Let's make your day glow

Your wedding is one of the most photographed days of your life, and you deserve to feel fully yourself in every picture. I'd be honored to help you, your mom, and your favorite people find your colors and walk into your day feeling confident and radiant.
